Introduction and Description

Each Geobag is custom made and supplied in various forms and sizes to suit design and installation requirements. They are ideal for installations on dry land or placed into water of any depth.The Geobag containers are placed on a dump-truck bed and then taken to a local ready mixed concrete plant, where they are dry filled with sand. The filling ports of each Geobag are then closed using hog rings. At site, the Geobag structures were lifted and placed using a lifting harness and spreader beam arrangement.Consequently, to prevent further erosion of the coastline, the Geobag containers are placed on the top of the slope, so when the next storm occurred, the sand under the geotextle bags  scoured away, and the bags with then literally moved en-mass down slope by themselves.

A  physical modeling  study  under   found  that  launching  performance  of  sand  filled geobags  is  better  than C. C.  Block but lower than rounded and angular rock. The major advantages of Geobags are its availability and easier implementation. Geobags are readily  available  and  transportable when it is  empty and  can  be easily  filled  with  local  sand  and  formed  with  a  range  of  sizes  to  fit  specific application.  There are two types of geo bags viz. non woven and woven, But non woven bags are the latest concept which overcome the deficiency of a woven bag.

  • Sewing is done by stitching machine
  • The number of stitch per inch > 5
  • The two line of stitches should be within 5 mm distance with a margin of 2mm from the edge of the Geo Textile to the center line between the two seams. The tolerance is 3mm in each direction.
